OFF ON

Pre Match comments.

Ashton has set the team up in a 4,4,2 format. The team never having played a side of eleven before let alone a game with each other, we will just have to see what happens. The coaches seem undecided whether they are going to continue as last year with two teams of nine or try out a team of nine and one team of eleven. Today may make up their minds.
The boys are in good hands with Ashton and Paul and they usually try their best for them.

MATCH REPORT

FIRST HALF

Coin tossed and Moss Bank kicks off at 11.15
Open play Mooreside take possession and shoots at goal. Leon proves more than capable and tips it over the bar for a corner.
Mooreside take their corner, another great save by Leon, which goes out to open play, players now massing around Moss Banks goal mouth, fumbling play and at 5 minutes into the match ……Goal.
Moore side 1, Mossbank 0.

Centre kick by Moss bank and Moore side immediately under pressure from the front six. A couple of mistakes and Moorside take control and go on the attack only to be stopped, good tackle by Matt who puts the ball over the touch line for a Moore side throw.
Mossbank win possession and are on the attack but a pass to Tom has the ref blow for an unfortunate off side.
Play resumes and Lewis forces Moore side defence to concede a throw in resulting in open play and an excellent attack by Mossbank particularly Jack and Bailey. Attack halted by Mooreside defence resulting in a throw in.
Pressure on Mooreside from a Mossbank attack, dispossessed by Mooreside and counter attacked, forward pass to a Mooreside player who was surly off side (no whistle though) Matt saved the day by kicking the ball out for a corner kick.
Corner taken but missed intended player and a goal mouth scuffle was cleared by a nice over head banana resulting in a Moss bank attack only to be stopped by the whistle blower, Mossbank forwards being found off side yet again.
Goal kick and open play with some good and accurate passing by Mooreside who are on the attack, stopped by Nathan putting the ball into touch, well played. Throw in to Mooreside.

Attack by Mooreside whistle goes as Mooreside are caught off side. Who’d believe it? Mossbank takes the initiative from the free kick and attacks with some brilliant passing and Bailey running the final furlong so to speak and in the net it goes. !4 minutes and the score line is a deserved:-

Mooreside 1, Mossbank 1
Centre kick to resume play and as expected an immediate rush on the Mossbank goal, a good shot and Leon makes a brilliant save to tip it over that very high and very long cross bar.
Corner kick taken and ball headed out for another corner.
Corner taken, and is received by Mooreside and booted right on target but tipped over the bar brilliantly again by Leon.
Third corner in as many minutes and its mayhem in the goal mouth, Matt gets to it and clears from the goal mouth five to ten metres out, Mooreside kicks it low and past everyone’s legs, into the net it goes.

Mooreside 2, Mossbank 1

Play resumes and loads of pressure is put on Mooreside as Mossbank find determination for the equalizer. A good fight from both teams sees a clearance from Mooreside up the field dangerously in an un marked area easily received by the Mooreside winger and run up the wing worryingly goal wards, Curtis manages to clear into touch for a Mooreside throw.
Throw in won by Mossbank and rapid progression up the field catches Mooreside off guard and a shot on goal but saved by the keeper.
Back down to midfield by Mooreside on the far touch line, an indiscriminate boot by a Mooreside player slams the ball into Baileys face giving him a bloody nose and the ref stops play. Bailey is attended to but all is not so bad, Brian Birchall commented on Baileys new hair style and told bailey that his “hair was lovely” putting a little pride back into the injured Bailey.
Play resumes but less than 1 minute and a hard tackle brings Curtis down with an injury to this ankle/shin. The ref again stops play.
Play resumes and a rapid attack ensues towards the Mossbank goal, the ball was cleared resulting in a corner. The corner comes to nothing apart from a mess in the goal mouth eventually cleared and further tackling provides a throw in to Mossbank. Action then is across the pitch from the near touch line to the furthest giving a throw in to Mooreside. Foul throw, take it again says the ref. A decisive thrust towards Mossbank goal which Mossbank do not seem to have an answer for, Goal,

Mooreside 3, Mossbank 1

Play resumes, centre kick resulting in open play Mossbank no Mooreside; no oh sorry I can’t write that quickly, ball possession is being lost quicker than Labour party votes……
Throw in to Mossbank in the Mossbank half resulting in open play and an attack by Mooreside but the referee blows for off side and Mossbank have a free kick which is taken by Leon.
Open play resulting in a throw in for Mooreside and rush towards the Mossbank goal, Mooreside shoot, an excellent save by Leon saves the day again.
Play resumes and again a mixed series of possession moments to fast for me to write until Mooreside commit a foul and a free kick is awarded. Curtis takes, receipt fumbled and Mooreside take the advantage with mixed fortunes and an attack on Mossbank half, a shot on goal headed clear and into touch by Matt stinted the attack.
Throw in taken and the ref blows for a foul, free kick to Mooreside uncomfortably close to the Mossbank goal. What foul?, I must have been busy writing.
Free kick taken and the ball rockets into the top corner for another Mooreside goal.

Mooreside 4, Mossbank 1

Play resumes and Mossbank now looking a little deflated. An attack by Mossbank is started albeit a little half hearted and a chance for a shot on an open Mooreside goal is squandered. That could have been a result!!!
Mixed play and another Mossbank attack on goal results in the ref blowing his whistle as Moss bank are caught off side.
The goal keeper kicks the ball to a well positioned midfield player who commits an accurate pass and what do you know, goal.

Mooreside 5, Mossbank 1.

Mossbank, heads down and no more will to play resume play never the less, bad passing, too many gaps is now making it too easy for Mooreside to cause trouble, the ball is quickly run towards the Mossbank goal and kick on target only to be cleared with an overhead banana kick by Matt. Out of trouble momentarily, but a reply in the form of a shot by Mooreside, goal. Lost count, 12345.

Mooreside 6 Mossbank 1

Play resumes and a good attack by Mossbank, shot on goal, saved by the Mooreside keeper. Keeper volleys the ball into the Mossbank half, passed forward but ref whistles for off side. Play resumes and ref blows thankfully for half time.

HALF TIME

I observe a solemn looking team in need of a pep talk. Although, this bunch of eleven haven’t play as a group of eleven before, haven’t played off side rules before and haven’t played together as a team before. The goal nets look massive and must be daunting for Leon being all alone inside this massive netted structure, I wouldn’t like it. Further more, they are playing against a team who are not only seasoned as an eleven a side team with all the rules and regulations, but are playing at home and for the first half, they have been playing down hill. Let us see what happens in the second half.

SECOND HALF

Whistle is blown and the second half is under way.
Mooreside kick off and immediately press deep into the Mossbank half, a long pass to the left of the goal and picked up by an off side Mooreside player, what! No whistle, Moss bank hold their hands up and look at the ref, a further pass, players now on side occurs and the ball is drilled into the back of the net. Instead of complaining to the ref, perhaps if Mossbank had carried on and chased the ball, the defence would have been back in place to intercept the play stopping the goal. Lessons to be learned here, play to the refs whistle and do not give up.

Mooreside 7, Mossbank 1.

Play resumes and Mossbank break. This is good football, Mossbank are now in charge, shot on the Mooreside goal, bounces out, another shot bounced out again, knocked out third, fourth and fifth shot knocked out. Three Mooreside players are left strewn across the goal mouth and the ref blows to stop play. I suppose he only had three subs and couldn’t afford another casualty on his team! One Mooreside player is taken off and replaced.
Excellent play from Mossbank loads of pressure on Mooreside nearly got a result.
Play was re started, Mossbank in possession and well in charge, an excellent pass by Nathan right to Lewis, and Lewis pulls the trigger and scores. Mossbank have a well deserved goal. 12.08 and its:-

Mooreside 7, Mossbank2.

Kick off by Mossbank with Mossbank retaining possession but whistle goes. Free kick to Mooreside!!!! Why? Must have been writing again.
Free kick taken and play enters deep into moss banks half, shot on goal cleared by Matt, another cleared by Alex and another by Cain Thank goodness for our defence, everyone in the goal keepers area, very messy situation ball rises and drops into the back of the net. Not a goal to be proud of, but still a goal.

Mooreside 8, Mossbank 2.

Off we go again, mixed play leading back into moss banks half and the ball goes out of play for a goal kick.

Oops, a mistake in mid field gives Mooreside a good chance on goal, and yes you’ve guessed it goal.

Mooreside 9, Mossbank 2.

Note, For some reason Mossbank seem now not to be too disheartened.

Play resumes and Mooreside win possession attacking Mossbank but are foiled and the ball goes out of play resulting is a goal kick by Leon.
This is more like it, Mossbank beat Mooreside as they throw everything at them to stop the attack, nifty little pass to Jack and Jack shows Mooreside that you can’t keep a good team down by sending the ball into the back of the net.

Mooreside 9, Mossbank3.

Mooreside kick off and loose possession, some excellent passing by Mossbank Lewis shoots and is just wide off the mark. Unlucky.
This is miles better, Mooreside have now something to worry about, it’s just a pity that time is against us.
Goal kick, the ball lands for Mooreside but is immediately taken off them and is run towards the Mooreside goal. The keeper looks uncomfortable, Tom shoots and just misses.
Goal kick, again Mooreside looses play as Mossbank takes charge, a slip gives Mooreside a throw in.
Mooreside mess up again and are now under pressure, panic makes them concede another throw in.
The ref calls for a drinks break (mine’s a scotch) and both teams have a well deserved couple of minutes.
The game re starts as it left off, Mooreside under pressure within their own half and Jack has a shot which just misses, very unlucky. Goal kick into Mossbank’s half and a sloppy pass to an offside player has the ref blowing his whistle again.
Leon kicks the ball into play and Mossbank again make progress across the half way line only to loose the ball for a throw in to Mooreside. Foul throw by Mooreside, Mossbank’s throw. Pressure again on Mooreside and only a miss pass provides a little relief to Mooreside as they counter attack up the field but progress is halted by an excellent tackle from Nathan P. Mooreside throw in. This results in open play edging into the Mooreside half and a shot by Tom but this time a little wider than usual, still unlucky.

Goal kick leading to open play and another silly incident where the ball was chased and then the defence stopped because they claimed the man was off side, yes, he was but the ref did not blow, they could have halted the man but no, goal10 for Mooreside.
The referee did apologise and conceded that he may have been wrong, fine chap for that, but a little late, the goal stands.

Mooreside 10, Mossbank 3.

Play resumes and after a few seconds, a throw in is awarded to Mossbank. This resulted in open play and an attack on the Mossbank goal, Mooreside tackled by Reece, lose the ball then win it back shoot and miss. Than goodness Reece put them off.
Goal kick finds Bailey, fantastic run by Bailey, he beats two players, passes to Alex on the third player and Alex sinks it into the back of the net for the fourth goal.

Mooreside 10, Mossbank 4.

Play resumes Mossbank take possession pass to Nathan, Nathan F fouled. No hand shake by the Mooreside player although repeatedly asked to, not a good sport I feel.
An excellent free kick by Nathan and well manoeuvred into the Mooreside half unfortunately Mooreside take possession and run towards the Mossbank half. Nathan P has other ideas though and removes the ball from the player, into touch with an excellent tackle.

The Mooreside throw in results in open play and pretty hopeless shot on goal which never threatened Leon who just nipped round the back of the goal, picked it up and kicked it down the field. Mossbank ran the gauntlet and approached the opposition’s goal, passed to Tom, Tom shot and was just wide.
Goal kick into Mossbank half repossessed by Mossbank and another attack started, another shot towards goal but missed.
Goal kick into the Mossbank half resulting in messy open play and an attack on the Mossbank goal. Tackled and cleared by Matt. Final whistle is blown, Final score

Closing comment

All the team deserve a pat on the back for a determined effort and although not a win, a good sporting result all the same getting four goals past a team who are used to this sort of play and leaving the field without a blemish. They obviously worried Mooreside in the closing stages as ball possession within the last 15 minutes was definitely weighted to Mossbank. Well done boys, really proud of every last one of you.
By the way, I may have got some things wrong in the report because it’s my first time too.
